Woman Who Killed Her Newborn Baby Has Been Charged

The Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County brought charges against the 29-year-old woman working as a kindergarten nanny, who killed her newborn and hid its body in a forest – Zsolt Jogg, deputy press spokesman of the Chief Prosecutor’s Office, informed MTI on Wednesday.

According to the indictment, the defendant lived in a small settlement in Borsod and was put on sick pay in mid-April last year. At that time, the woman was already twenty-six weeks pregnant, but she hid this from everyone. She did not prepare for motherhood, did not go for a gynecological examination and only consulted the nurse in June. At the beginning of July last year, she gave birth to the newborn while sitting on the toilet at her parents’ house in the evening. She cut the umbilical cord with scissors and then hit the baby’s head on the ground. She wrapped the child’s body in a towel and left it on the floor. The next morning, a woman asked for help from an acquaintance, whom she told that pigeon carcasses needed to be transported. They traveled to Miskolc and the accused hid the baby’s body in a wooded area on the outskirts of the city.

According to the statement, the newborn was born alive and would have survived if the delivery and fetal care had been carried out under appropriate conditions. His death was due to violence, circulatory and respiratory failure, which was contributed to by the blow to the skull and the unsealed state of the umbilical cord. The General Prosecutor’s Office brought charges for the crime of manslaughter committed against a person under the age of fourteen.
