A man stabbed his friend seven times

The General Prosecutor’s Office of Debrecen proposed the upholding of the judgment against the accused, who was sentenced by the Miskolc Court to 10 years in prison and a ban from public affairs for the same period of time for the crime of attempted murder. The accused cannot be released on parole from his prison sentence.

According to the verdict, the accused, who was 32 years old at the time of the crime, consumed alcohol and a new psychoactive substance, so-called consumed herbal. In the afternoon, his friend, with whom he used to drink on a daily basis in the nearby pub or at his family home, came to visit him. When his drinking buddy arrived at the house, the accused – without any precedent – immediately started yelling at him, questioned why he was there, and told him to leave or he would kill him. In the meantime, he took a knife with a 19 cm blade from the kitchen, with which he stabbed and cut the man seven times on his upper body while shouting “you’re going to die!”. He only stopped the abuse when his friend fell to the ground. The victim still had enough strength to call for help on the phone. His brother-in-law arrived at the scene and notified the ambulance and the police, while the defendant was threatening him with a screwdriver in his hand. The police had to use physical coercion against the aggressive, almost delirious defendant.

As a result of the abuse, the victim suffered life-threatening stab wounds that took more than 8 days to heal. His life was saved by professional medical intervention.

According to the Debrecen Appeals General Prosecutor’s Office, the court’s decision is legal and well-founded. The accused, without any justifiable reason, carried out the crime against the life of outstanding material weight to the detriment of his friend in a drunken and intoxicated state resulting from his own fault. In order to protect society, exemplary punishment is particularly important, the mitigation of which is not justified, therefore the prosecutor’s office proposed to uphold the sentence.

In the second instance, the Debrecen Board of Judges decides the case.
