A further extension of restrictions to slow down the outbreak of a new type of coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in Germany could be agreed on by the leaders of the federal and provincial governments in a draft agreement leaked on Sunday.

According to a proposal for Monday’s deliberations, the closure that freezes most areas of social and economic life, which was eased somewhat in early March, has meanwhile eased in April at the earliest.

Thus, it is expected that not only will the extension of the restrictions still in force be agreed at an online conference of the Chancellor and provincial heads of government, but also that the new strictly lenient rules will be lifted in just three weeks, including in pre-booked shops. can be purchased that sell non-essential goods.

At the same time, the draft agreement drawn up by the heads of government of the Social Democratic-led provinces would still allow for forward-looking, innovative model projects examining how to safely operate social and economic institutional systems during an epidemic. Such a pilot program is being carried out, for example, in the Social Democrat-led Berlin, where they are trying to restart the performing arts. As one of the first events of the program, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the most famous orchestra in the German capital, was able to play in front of an audience again on Saturday night for the first time since last autumn.

According to the latest agreement between the federal government and the provincial governments, the restrictions must all be lifted when the so-called seven-day infection rate, ie the number of infections per hundred thousand inhabitants registered in the previous seven days, permanently rises above 100.

According to data from the Robert Koch National Institute of Public Health (RKI) on Sunday, that figure rose to 103.90 from 99.60 on Saturday. The strength of the third wave is indicated by the fact that the indicator stood at 79 a week.

According to RKI statistics, 13,733 infections have been screened in the last 24 hours. This is an increase of almost 30 percent from 10,790 a week earlier. Together with the newly registered infections, SARS-CoV-2 has been detected in 2,659,516 people.

99 deaths were reported in one day in connection with the disease caused by the virus (Covid-19). This is also a significant increase from the 70 a week earlier. With the new deaths, the number of victims of the epidemic in Germany rose to 74,664.
